5.0 out of 5 stars Busta's Debut (4.5), February 27, 2006
With his funky dreads, raspy growl of a voice, and outrageous videos, Busta Rhymes has always stood out as a very unique rapper at the mainstream level. While he had not yet established a great name for himself prior to this release, "The Coming" produced a wave of excitement from fans who took to his spacey beats, wild lyrical flow and image. "Woo Ha!! Got You All In Check" was his big single off the debut, helping him to build a name for himself as one of the top MC's in the Rap Business.

The Intro is certainly an attention grabber with its explicit content, and it segues fairly well into the opening song "Do My Thing". This song is definitely one of the most unusual on the album, with tons of voiceovers and a sound effect filled beat. "Everything Remains Raw" is a pretty catchy track, with an impressive beat. "Abandon Ship" is another interesting song, with memorable guest appearances by Rampage and The Last Boy Scout, while Busta gives an especially fierce delivery. The ending of this song is a lead-in to the Woo-Ha!! beat, and works effectively. "Woo-Ha!!" is of course a classic with a great chorus and Busta giving insane lyrical deliveries. "It's A Party" adds a flavour of hip-hop to the album, with vocals in the chorus. "Ill Vibe" is probably my favourite song on here, with the great lyrics, and Q-Tip guest starring. The chorus for this track is very catchy. "Flipmode Squad Meets Def Squad" is simply an exceptional collaboration of rappers, with a hardcore beat, producing an 8 minute rap cut. The rapping is very impressive, and Busta closes the song emphatically. "Still Shining" has a nonsense chorus, but pretty good rapping in the verses from Busta. "Keep It Movin'" is the second longest track on here and once again is a great collaboration. It has a gangsta feel to it, with its intensity and lyrical deliveries. "The Finish Line" is a shorter cut, but nevertheless a great song.

To conclude, I would recommmend this Busta album to all fans of the rapper, and this album probably exposes Rhymes at his darkest. It worked to produce a great set of rap songs, and now he has changed his style drastically and his latest release is due this July. This album is recommended to all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't ever disrespect!, May 21, 2001
By Ahmed Chronwell (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
This is as good as it get with this dude. This album does not try to be any thing but what it is : a hardcore East Coast album with a party vibe. The raw sh*( is Abandon Ship and Ill Vibe. The Coming will sound just as dope in 2014.

4.0 out of 5 stars He Made Sure Everything Remains RAW! (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars), January 22, 2009
By Chandler "Infamous" (Atlanta (College Park), Georgia) - See all my reviews

If I had as much knowledge of rap music back in '93/'94 as I do now, It wouldn't surprise me if Busta Rhymes was going to end up having a solo career after the Leaders of a New School group was falling apart. His voice and delivery was very unique and creative, as shown on T.I.M.E. and on various ATCQ tracks. Each track here on his debut has a lot of energy and his vocals are in full force, great for any fans, from the lead single "Everything Remains Raw", and all throughout.

Deeper in the album, there are many great tracks here to enjoy. One of his most recognizable singles is "Woo Ha!! Got You All In Check". Busta and his younger cousin, also a member his new group (at the time) Flipmode Squad, Rampage go back and forth on "Abandon Ship" which is surprisingly good. "It's A Party" featuring Zhane has a nice vibe. Q-Tip drops a nice verse along with Busta on "Ill Vibe". My favorite colab track is the eight minute "Flipmode Meets Def Squad" with Jamal, Redman, Keith Murray, Rampage, and Lord Have Mercy. Each verse is straight A game, and the beat is dope too. "Keep It Movin'" is the very last Leaders Of A New School song we'll hear (and I doubt that it was newly recorded). After the good "The Finish Line", Busta closes out the "Outro" with his infamous countdown to the year 2000.

Some of the tracks were not favorites of mine like "Hot Fudge", but overall the album is excellent. Busta will follow up with When Disaster Strikes, with much more great singles. The Coming is an easy purchase for many fans who want to remember Busta's old fast and gritty rhyme style. The production and the guests here all match up with Busta. Definitely worth owning. Peace.
