Biography

An ardently political rap trio from the West Coast, Da Lench Mob earned notice for their breakout debut Guerillas in tha Mist. Formed by Shorty, J-Dee, and T Bone, the group debuted in 1990 on Ice Cube's AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted album. With Cube as executive producer, Da Lench Mob released Guerillas in tha Mist in 1992. Led by an incendiary video for the title track (based on the movie Predator),… Read more in Amazon's Da Lench Mob Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Total legitimate anger...., August 26, 2000
By J. Michael Showalter (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews

This is an angry CD.

Almost all of the lyrics on this CD aredirected at someone. It was recorded in '92 ... There was a lot to be mad about-- and on this disc, it all comes out..... maybe to the point where it is almost.... almost... in self-parody....

But it's not. And the anger still resonates, and if this is not remembered as one of THE CDs of the whole 'gangsta' era, it pretty much shows how messed up the world is. I still carry this CD in my car. I still listen to this once a week. In so many ways, it's my favorite rap CD....

If you've not heard it, and want to remember/realize how messed up the world is, buy this disc. If you want to have a CD that is dark.... buy this CD.... another disc from the same year that is pretty tight is the 'Menace II Society' soundtrack-- I'd buy that too... and then watch the movie....

It's all pretty haunting...

5.0 out of 5 stars Dope album, December 8, 2004
This is a very good album from the era that it is from. If this album is offensive to your ears then don't listen to it. Racism is very alive then and is very alive now. The previous reviewer is upset over the lyrics against white people, but what about the REAL violence that has been committed against Africans for hundreds of years? If Amazon needs to stop selling the album then you need to leave the planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Classic!, November 10, 2006
I have both "Guerillas In Tha Mist" and "Planet Of Da Apes", and while both CD's are some of West Coast's at its finest, "Guerillas In Tha Mist" really stands the test of time. Both CD's are in my car changer at all times. This CD is real, and the issues rapped about were as legit in 1992 as they are today (unfortunately). Bangin' bass, kickin' drums, and three angry men plus Ice Cube equals one hard CD. I bang some songs off of this CD on the bar jukebox, and the younger crowd always ask me "who IS this?!" It would seem that the "old school" sound still has it. This CD is not for the meek. If you are white, and you can't laugh at yourself, then don't buy this CD. Racism abounds on this CD, and it's a little weird being on the receiving end of it, being a poor preppy white boy in living in small-town, USA. All in all, this CD is must have for any West Coast fan. Trust me, as I have had to replace stolen copies three times now! ;) Buy "Planet Of Da Apes" too! "Menace II Society" is also a good purchase as "Guerillas Ain't Gangstas" is one of my favorite Lench Mob tracks.

Feeding off of that Ice Cube energy Da Lench Mob came with a great flurry. None are quite to the level of Cube but all together very good.
