5.0 out of 5 stars A Cut Above, August 11, 1999
By A Customer
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm a relatively recent convert to "Smooth Jazz" (which I think is a meaningless label). I have been into Pat Metheny and fusion jazz for many years, but generally "Progressive" music was my music of choice.

I have of late come to know and love musicians such as Norman Brown, Boney James, and Richard Elliott, largely as the result of the influence of my three year old son - a whole different story.

Brian brings a willingness to blend influences into his music that gives it a unique and vital character. On careful listening, this is definitely not "Smooth Jazz" elevator music if that is what you are looking for. Each song stands on its own and demonstrates a unique and creative musical approach.

This CD is a definite buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outcast Culbertson, March 15, 2002
By "jimmynj" (southern new jersey) - See all my reviews
After Hours is atypical Culbertson. It's also his best album. It's high energy pure smooth jazz. The rest of his music, with the exception of Secrets, is low energy ultra mellow elevator music. In Secrets, a very nice album, one hears a bridge between After Hours and the rest of his music. If you are a dead serious smooth jazz fan, forget about Culbertson, except for his must have, fundamentalist, smooth jazz albums After Hours and Secrets. In fact, After Hours is considered by me to be a Core Album (an album that is typical smooth jazz and in an elite group that comprises the very best of smooth jazz).

4.0 out of 5 stars Inside Pocket, June 3, 2000
By Jack Oris (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
I've been enjoying "smoothe jazz" for about 7 years and this is one of my favorites to listen to when I put the top down on a cool summer night and go! I am also a big fan of The Rippington's,and 3rd Force. Would recommend any of these for hours of musical pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIS BEST WORK TO DATE.
When I heard this it was what I consider to be IT. Each track makes you crave for more smooth yet urban night-life piano laced grooves. A must get.
