Editorial Reviews

Product Description

From the opening "One, Two, Three" of their debut 1966 smash "Good Lovin'," The Young Rascals were the hottest, most dynamic rock group New York had ever seen. The runaway train of chart-topping singles that followed -- "I've Been Lonely Too Long," "Groovin'," "A Girl Like You," "How Can I Be Sure," "A Beautiful Morning" -- and the four albums they came from, permanently retired the blue-eyed soul trophy. Here they are again in all their Buster Brown-collared, soulful glory: The Young Rascals, Collections, Groovin' and Once Upon a Dream -- exact replicas of the highly collectible original LPs, each one on high-definition vinyl and mastered from the vintage analog tapes. Groovin' to the Rascals on vinyl? It's Wonderful. --This text refers to the Vinyl edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of genre, July 1, 1998
By Dean L. Surkin (Bronxville, NY USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Many rock bands augment their sound in the studio with additional musicians, but with the exception of having guitarist Cornish overdub electric bass, the Rascals' first album mostly sounds like the Rascals live. They were great innovators, including Cavaliere's use of Hammond organ, Cornish's varied and contrapuntal guitar lines, Danelli's precision and power, and the three part harmonies including the remarkable Brigati. I have listened to this album with great pleasure for the past 32 years, and probably will continue to do so for the rest of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic stuff!, February 18, 2000
The (Young) Rascals were one of the best American bands from the classic mid to late 60's era of rock. Most of their best stuff is found on this set (although I wish they'd found room for "It's Love"). The mastering is good, and I applaud Rhino's decision to present the material from the first few albums in mono (the stereo mixes are way too 'ping-pongy'). An essential addition to any collection of classic 60s rock music.
