SOUL MUSIC'S BEST SONGTRESS, March 25, 2002
By A Customer
Candi Staton has got to be soul music's best singer! She sings all of her songs with emotion, strength, and most of all, reality. Which is something that we all can relate to, you know all the ups and downs in everyday life. I remember listening to these songs back in the day and loving her voice. This CD has it all from sensual ballads to stomping dance grooves! My favorites have got to be "Young Hearts Run Free", "Victim" and "Honest I Do Love You". I was kind of surprised to find out that Warner Bros. did not include "Looking For Love" from the CANDI STATON (1980) album and the wonderful title track from the 1979 album, CHANCE. This album also includes a previously unreleased track entitled, "He's Making Love To You". This CD has wonderful liner notes by Bill Carpenter and gives us a glimpse of her Warner Bros. years. It is nice to know that after all of these years being out of print, these songs have been reissued.....only thing is, Warner Bros. Records should reissue all of Candi Staton's albums! I have all six of her albums and still play them on my record player :) She has also released a nice dance album OUTSIDE IN, which is worth buying at the import price. Buy this album and enjoy listening to one of soul music's best singer!

EXCELLENT Soul Music!!, March 19, 2002
By A Customer
"Young Hearts Run Free" has been one of my favorite songs of all time (the original 1976 album is a wonderful album as well). When I found out that Warner Bros. reissued some material for this greatest hits album, I was excited because she in my opinion, is one of the best female singers of all time. This album has it all from fast dance tracks (ie. "When You Wake Up Tomorrow", "Victim", and "I Ain't Got Nowhere To Go") to relaxing ballads such as "One More Chance On Love","Halfway To Heaven", and "He's Making Love To You". This greatest hits album has the special disco versions of "Victim", "Run To Me", and "When You Wake Up Tomorrow", which are very hard to find nowadays. I am glad that Warner Bros. has actually released some of these wonderful songs onto CD, but I want to know when will they reissue all of her six albums ("CANDI", "YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE", "MUSIC SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS", "HOUSE OF LOVE", "CHANCE", & "CANDI STATON")? Believe me, they are all worth reissuing!! Bottom line......Candi Staton is truly one of soul music's best soulstress and DIVA, and this albums proves just that!UPDATE: On October 22nd, Ambassador/Rhino Records will reissue two Candi Staton albums on one CD! The albums that will be released are "YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE" and "HOUSE OF LOVE". These two albums were released in 1976 and 1978 and were Candi's biggest selling albums for Warner Bros. The reissue for the other four albums depends on the sales of this first reissue....so support Candi and buy your copy! Thanks!

Rootsy soul and soulful disco, April 1, 2003
This delightful collection of most of Candi Staton's best work includes deep soul ballads like Here I Am Again, As Long As He Takes Care Of Home and He's Making Love To You, plus soulful disco like When You Wake Up Tomorrow and Victim, a dancefloor classic that reappears in a new remix every few years. Her greatest hit, Young Hearts Run Free, is a classic pop number with amazing lyrical depth and a wonderful melody. But my favourite here is Honest I Do Love You, a brilliantly arranged slow disco number with beautiful lines like" "I've been humming for days/Melodies, some you've never heard". The omission of her Bee Gees composed hit Nights On Broadway is strange, but overall, this album is a great introduction to the work of Staton. It concludes with the gospel song Take My Hand, a reflection of her roots. The CD booklet has a very informative history of her career plus some nice black and white pics. What distinguishes Candi from so many other soul & dance divas of the late 70s and early 80s are her genuinely soulful vocals and the intelligence of her songs.
