Biography

Ralph Tresvant sang lead on New Edition's hits and had his own gold number one R&B hit with the silky "Sensitivity." He was the last member to release a solo project of his own. All of the group's previous members had number one R&B hits: Bobby Brown with "Girlfriend " and Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronald DeVoe as Bell Biv DeVoe (aka BBD) with "Poison." Besides this, Tresvant had New… Read more in Amazon's Ralph Tresvant Store

4.0 out of 5 stars His Only Success Outside Of New Edition!, July 13, 2004
By Ervin Griffin (Bluefield, WV) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Ralph Tresvant was great as lead singer of New Edition but on his own his two CD's were probably the weakest. The self-titled debut was definitely the better of the two! "Rated R", "Sensitivity" (both versions), "Do What I Got To Do" and "I Love You" (in my view) were the gems of this CD! Still, I think this was the last gasp of the New Jack Swing movement as it began to wind down at this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ralph Tresvant, November 1, 1998
By A Customer
New Edition member Ralph Tresvant's self-titled debut album is great. It features the hits "Sensitivity," "Do What I Gotta Do," and "Stone Cold Gentleman." Tresvant's smooth soulful vocals are all over this album. Whether you like slow romantic ballads or fast jams, you will love this album. The album also features writers and producers like the hit-making team Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Babyface, and L.A. Reid. The best tracks on the CD are "Sensitivity," "Stone Cold Gentleman," "Do What I Gotta Do," "I Love You (Just For You)," and "Alright Now" which was co-written by Michael Jackson. With all this, this album is a must buy!!! Go and check it out now!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than they give him credit for, November 26, 2003
By Anthony Johnson "Music Lover in DC" (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I find it funny that I'm compelled to right this review because I was never a big NE fan just a Johnny Gill fan from his roots in DC before he joined NE. (And I'm not defending him because I think he was fine before and after NE and never had to worry about having to take a back seat to the rest of the group.)

Its funny how so many people are dogging this album. It was a very good. Given the fact that he didn't have any of the hype that the others did. (Movies, collaborations, etc.) He played the background when they debuted their's and he paid for in sales and popularity. Its suprising he got the air play he did.

Its a very good album and I've got much play from it. I just get tired of people asking me, "Who is that?" I've used this CD as a staple in several slow jam CDs and tapes and have many requests for copies. I think those who had low ratings for the cuts that didn't get much airplay prove that they let the radio DJs decide what's a good song instead of listening for themselves. (He's got good lyrics as well. i.e. Last Night, Public Figure, Love Takes TIme)

He's got a very smooth and almost sophisticated style that you don't see much of anymore. Along with a very soulful but not overpowering voice. (from his idol MJ) That's why he was the lead of NE. Unfortunately, he went SMOOTH when everybody else was going THUG. (Look at what R. Kelly and K Ci and Jojo did for the image of the once smooth ballad singer. That's why Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Bill Withers, Lou Rawls and Donny Hathaway seem so old school now. But who do the keep trying to pattern themselves after? Think about it.....)

Now, he might be considered Neo-soul or even smooth-jazz. (like Will Downing) Its a shame because I thought this would be the beginning of a very good solo career. But look at what happened to David Peaston.....

Look me up if you want to tal music.
