Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com essential recording
The gifts of film composer Ennio Morricone have not been overestimated by the recent hype piled upon them. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is one of his seminal works, its power only slightly diminished by its status as one of Morricone's overplayed warhorses. As with only the best film music, it is inexorably linked with the movie it accompanies, and it's wonderfully enjoyable even if you've never seen the film. Purists and aficionados will crow about its ubiquity, but anyone remotely interested in movie music and evocative, atmospheric composition deserves to hear this score. --Keven McAlester

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Spagetti Soundtrack, October 8, 2000
I was always very familar with the film "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and have been a very keen admirer of the soundtrack by Morricone. My big disappointment with this recording is the quality, a remastering is certainly called for, such an amazing score needs this treatment.

The main theme is of course very popular and recognised worldwide, my favorite however is the last track "The Trio". This tune added immeasurably to the tension towards the the end of the film. A triumph for Morricone who always believed that the soundtrack should be an intricate part of the motion picture experience.

Morricone has composed countless works for film and television, however along with "Gabriels Oboe" "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" remains his most popular.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's just plain good, March 24, 1999
By A Customer
A great atmospheric mix of rock, ambient and Spanish guitar music. From mellow watch the sun go down laments to the fist-pumping ride into battle finale, this album has it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUCH MORE THAN THE DRUM AND FLUTE MAIN TITLE, August 22, 2003
By A Customer
Renowned for and stereotyped by its spirited drum and flute main title, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack goes well beyond the cliché.

Morricone outdoes himself in tracks like Desert, Marcia and, my personal favorite, Story of a Soldier. These tracks are sensitive and expressive of the people and the story behind the story.

Even if the movie doesn't load your gun get the soundtrack and enjoy it for its own sake.
