5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Voice and Completely Underrated Talent!, August 12, 2000
By DANIEL E MILLER (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
Taylor Dayne is one of the TRUE singers out there with a range and a soulful delivery to boot. It's too bad that she hasn't received the accolades that she deserves. This album, however, has several Top 10 hits, showing that she has what it takes!

The old standards "Tell it To My Heart" and "Prove Your Love" are the dance club-goer's dream. You should, however, listen to her remake of "Want Ads." You've never heard a remake like this in your life. The original artists, "The Honeycombs," are taking SUCH a back seat to the way she belts this one out. It's one of the rare cases when the remake is BETTER than the original.

Taylor Dayne is one of the few artists that can sing a beautiful, slow ballad, and then hit you with a heavy-duty tough song with the same voice.

Get this one if you don't have it already! You'd be surprised at what she can do and how she's been overlooked.

4.0 out of 5 stars SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT, March 8, 2007
Setting the record straight: The order Taylor Dayne's singles were released off this album were the title track first (reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100), followed by "Prove Your Love" (also #7), "I'll Always Love You" (#3) and "Don't Rush Me" (#2). Yes, I agree that "Carry Your Heart" should've been the 5th single. I remember hearing it on the John Garabeedian (sp?) radio show - he always had a segment called "Make It Or Break It" where he played an artists' upcoming single and listeners would call in and vote on it (as I recall, the final vote was "Make It"). But I think the record company eventually decided that four singles off one album was enough & I guess they didn't want to take the chance of the possibility the single would miss the top 10 since Lesley's (her real first name) first 4 singles had gone top 10. Still, she had a powerful, soulful voice that was severely under-rated. If ever there was an artist who deserves a comeback, it's Taylor Dayne!

4.0 out of 5 stars I still love this debut! , January 2, 2005
Taylor Dayne's first album came out on Jan. 19, 1988, though they printed 1987 on the album. Bur this was a dynamic debut! She had such a soulful voice here. At times, she sounds like Mariah Carey did on her 1990 album. But this album also was one of Ric Wake's first hits as a producer; the same guy that would later do Mariah, Celine, Jennifer, and dozens of other artists. I still love the title song and Prove Your Love. But I still love I'll Always Love You, which sounds like it could have been recorded in Atlanta. Don't Rush Me didn't hit until 1989, so it was another hit in its own right. But I like other numbers like the sassy Want Ads and Where Does That Boy Hang Out. She has such an R&B voice that reminds you of the soul singers of back when. Her next album was more rock driven, very Tina Turner-ish, than this pop debut, but this debut really was dynamite all the way through!
