By the time Wolf recorded
Poet's Heart in 1985, she had spent more than a decade honing her songcraft, and it shows. Delicate lyrical lines blend seamlessly with (and are accented to perfection by) guitarist-mandolinist Nina Gerber's expert picking. "In China or a Woman's Heart (There Are Places No One Knows)" is an exceptionally beautiful tale of lifelong love, while "All He Ever Saw Was You" and the title track addresses loneliness with sympathy and grace. Spare arrangements and honest words are a winning combination in the hands of an artist of Wolf's caliber.
