In its heyday, the criminally underrated Accept could blister and burn with the best of 'em. "Fast As a Shark" was a classic precursor to thrash, and
Balls to the Wall was '80s metal at its most outrageous. But the group's umpteenth outing,
Predator, is a bit disappointing. Maybe vocalist Udo Dirkschneider has just mellowed with age (What is he now, 60?), but Accept is now playing the kind of bluesy, melody-laden tunes it once rallied against. Okay, songs like "Hard Attack" and "Crucified" still rage with fury, but elsewhere the band sounds too much like ZZ Top and The Cult for comfort.
