5.0 out of 5 stars Texas transplant makes good in San Francisco, November 18, 2001
By A Customer
A world ago in Austin,Tx, there was fabulous outfit known as the Dicks. Gary Floyd, their outspoken
and highly flamboyant lead singer, was looked upon as a god among men. Priding himself as a little-boys feet loving communist, he carried the dicks throughout the early 80's punk movement in Austin.
In a fortnight, the scene in Austin changed. The Big Boys seemed to go on endless tours. The Offenders broke up, and The dicks moved to San Francisco. The Big boys subsquently broke up
upon returning to Austin. The dicks went through several line up changes before calling it quits for
good in 1987. Lynn Perko (now in Imperial teen) was the drummer for the dicks at the time stayed
with Gary Floyd to form Sister Double Happiness. The real cement in the group's line-up was the
addition of Offenders bassist, Mikey Donaldson. Donaldson was locally admired in Austin for his
lemmy-style bass licks and sheer power. The title track "sister double happiness" definetly shows
Donaldson' power. Songs like "frieght train" "get drunk and die" and "cry like a baby" showcases Floyd's blues influenced vocals and just pure soul. Sister Double Happiness broke up in 1993
after several line up changes. Gary Floyd still reamins active in music and recently in 2000, did an
impromteau late night reunion with the remaining members of the dicks at the SXSW festival.
