5.0 out of 5 stars Spooky and hip., March 7, 2001
This review is from: Martin (Audio CD)
MARTIN is undoubtedly one of writer/director George Romero's finest films. Composer Donald Rubinstein captures the movie's flashback-and-dream-sequence feel with cool spookiness and hip jazz. Aided by the talents of Marty Ehrlich, Steve Gorn and Hank Roberts, Rubinstein brings a fresh approach to an old genre while maintaining the spirit of a good ol' horror film. This is definitly the best soundtrack in my collection.

This is a very eerie atmospherical soundtrack to George A. Romero's great vampire film. A film that gives a true sense of isolation with a wonderful film score. A must own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Martin....Martinnn....Martinnnnnnn...., November 18, 2003
This review is from: Martin (Audio CD)
I picked up the original soundtrack release of Martin back in the early 80s simply on the strength of it being a George A. Romero movie, nothing more. I knew very little about the plot, but I remembered the rave review it got from Newsweek back in 1977, and I loved Varese Sarabande's release of the Dawn of the Dead soundtrack, so that was good enough for me. Right away the haunting opening theme took me away to a dark, secret place where magic, folklore, and insanity mixed together into something new and almost intoxicating. Although that scratchy old vinyl soundtrack was lost (or given away to a friend for some stupid reason), I remembered the music clearly over the years and regret it slipping from my teenaged fingers. Now that soundtrack is back in my library and, once again, I can marvel at this offbeat and haunting jazz score. Believe the raves, this is one of the top 100 film scores of all time. Beautiful, creepy, and an essential in any film music collectors library. Highest recommendation.
