5.0 out of 5 stars Moody music, June 19, 2001
By "skulliest" (Edmonton, Alberta Canada) - See all my reviews
This is the debut disc for Moist, a five piece Canadian group. This album is full of dark themes meant to be played on a stormy night. On most songs, you get the feeling that lead singer David Usher is a very tortured soul due to the anger and pain that comes across in his vocals. A lot of times he will vary between hurried whispers to anguished screams. Mark Makowy's guitar often screams as loud and as agonized as Usher's vocals, often providing a tense counterbalance to the lyrics. Jeff Pearce and Paul Wilcox provide an extremely solid rhythm section. The final touch that really adds a lot to Moist's sound is the piano and keyboards played by Kevin Young. They add an almost gothic feel to most songs.

'Push', the album's lead single has been absolutely crushed by Canadian radio, which is sad because it is truly a dark and emotional song. 'Believe Me' is another single from the album, which deals with suicide. The haunting keys and simple, yet heartfelt guitar solo elevate this song to another level. The album's title track, 'Silver' is a slow grief stricken song and 'Freaky Be Beautiful' kicks things into high gear, featuring a really great piano solo. 'Into Everything' is a desparate song featuring some sombre piano and a tormented guitar solo and 'Machine Punch Through' is a dark and rousing song that just keeps building and building. 'Low Low Low' is another great slow, depressing song that is a great album closer.

All of the songs on this CD are excellent songs. They are presented with such emotion, sorrow and even self loathing at times that you think some therapy is in order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Moist's best and most haunting CD, August 3, 2004
By K. Joseph (United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Silver is an amazing CD that incorporates David Usher's scream-and-whisper vocals with a guitar and piano driven sound that's not often heard these days. The lyrics are excellent and heartfelt with a sadness that accompanies Usher's voice nicely. I first heard of Moist through the TV show Due South, where two of their songs were used during the show's run. I greatly enjoy music by Canadian bands, and Moist is definitely among my favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, June 10, 2001
I had never heard of Moist when a radio D.J. gave me a free copy of "Silver" at a promotion of some kind. When I listened to it the first time I was surprised at how good it was. That was about seven years ago and it has been in heavy rotation since. I have never heard anything that sounds like Moist. Some songs are more heavy rock, while a few are slower piano oriented ones. There's not a bad song in the lot. And there is something here for most anyone. Alternative rock, classic rock, whatever. This album just rocks. If you find a copy, check it out. You are sure to be delighted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album
I am a big MOIST fan, and I have 'Silver', 'Creature' and 'Little Songs'. I love them all, and although I think 'Silver' is a really great album, I prefer 'Creature' more.
