5.0 out of 5 stars cult-classic, period., June 3, 1999
By A Customer
If you've seen the animation film and you enjoyed it, then its probably worth it for you to sell your mother-in-law to buy this CD. Ingeniously crafted to accompany "Robot Carnival", this album has a life of its own. The songs are snappy, catchy, and definitely classic in their own ways. If you haven't seen the film, even better! You can probably deduce the film itself by listening to this amazing album! I recommend the eerily "Presence III" with its intricate harmonies for starters.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Soundtrack to A Beautiful Film., October 9, 1998
By A Customer
"Robot Carnival", for those unfamiliar with it, was an anime film from the mid-1980's which was meant to be the anime version of Disney's "Fantasia", except with, of course, robots. The film itself is breathtaking and a real treat for the eyes, and the film's music really adds to its dreamy feel. The soundtrack takes the listener on a journey to a faraway land, with such techno-meets-classical songs like "Coming Soon", which opens the film, and sleepy piano songs like the "Presence" series, which comes in 4 parts. Though I'd reccomend seeing the film first, the soundtrack can be thoroughly enjoyed on its own.

4.0 out of 5 stars A keeper...not to say a re-release wouldn't be nice, April 5, 2005
By Z. Simon "HarlotBug3" (Poway, California United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Endearing in both its soothing reflection and cheesy bounce, this soundtrack bridges a number of gaps between professional classical and basement techno, but falls short for only one major reason. I won't count the missing track from 'a tale of two robots' or the new-ageier mix of Franken's gears, only mention it to those working on its re-release...hint-hint.

I will, however, grimace at the song order.

I understand wanting to separate the softer parts of certain chapters, or even making a mix that appeals more to the composer's sense of flow, but I've a feeling that this compilation was thrown together from the first mix batch, appearing in order of completion. A few scenes from nightmare finished before a few from presence before one from cloud, etc. This hardly matters with today's technology, but it is initially quite frustrating.

But you've been looking for it for a while as well, haven't you?
By all means buy it, but don't spend more than the price of a deluxe re-released DVD...
