5.0 out of 5 stars A truly remarkable album., May 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hourly, Daily (Audio CD)
David Roberts, the "official" critic above, calls this effort "thoroughly uncharismatic." I suspect Mr. Roberts did no more than scan and skip through his cd with great haste due to the number of releases he has to review, which is a shame. Those who give them the time will learn that You Am I routinely create unusually rich and sophisticated hard-pop songs in the early Who/Kinks vein, and I believe "Hourly, Daily" to be the best of their first four efforts (though all are excellent). Calling this band "regular guys playing a regular brand of bar-room rock" does Amazon customers a tremendous disservice. This album contains some of the sharpest narrative lyrics and most sublime orchestration one is likely to hear. I find it tasteful and addictive. I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one started it all for me, January 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hourly, Daily (Audio CD)
While working in Sydney in 1996, I heard a few You Am I songs (in passing) on the radio. When I went back in 1997, I decided to check out their most recent cd, Hourly Daily, just to see what all the fuss was about. It had recently won the latest ARIA (their Grammy's) Best Album award for the year. I immediately became a You Am I fan and have bought everything they had made before HD and have made since, including Tim Rogers' INCREDIBLE solo cd "What Rhymes With Cars and Girls". What kills me is that these guys have never "broken" into the USA, for which more fame and fortune they truly deserve. The American public misses out on them and gets force-fed Savage Garden.

Anyway, I recommend buying both the domestic and import version, because there are a few different songs on each one. Also, get their live cd "'Round Ten, Saturnday Night". It does well in capturing one of the best live, fun bands I have ever seen. I'll travel to either coast to see them play if the next time they come to the States, they only go to NYC, LA, or the like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put the same old stuff away and pick up something fresh!, December 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Hourly, Daily (Audio CD)
You am I is a band made up of 3 ordinary Aussie blokes who know how to make addictive music. Hourly Daily has everything from accoustic ballads to driving guitars. The lyrics are fun with some typical Aussie sarcasm. I recommend you add this to your music collection - you will not regret it.

This album has been my favourite since I purchased it a couple of years ago. Musically, I think it has appeal to many listeners as well as having a very localised (Aussie) feel.
