The Mali superstar has kept a low profile since Amen (1991), his Joe Zawinul-produced bid for crossover stardom, and a new generation of Afro pop marvels led by Baaba Maal have stepped into the vacuum. Wonderfully produced album brings a blend of traditional West African and Western music that is not too "westernised". The Horn and Saxophone arrangements are brilliant and it keeps the infectious rhythms and precussive instrumentation without any loss of its West African roots. The guitar work is brilliant (KOUYATE) A brilliantly revamped version of MANDJOU. AFRICA is so infectious in its beat. FOLON really full of emotion - The icing on the cake.

"Soro" might have been the trendsetter, but this release is Salif's classic! I don't know what kind of juju was happening in the studio during the making of the this one, but all the elements are right on. A near perfect recording--and an absolute MUST HAVE for fans of Salif and Afro-pop in general.

This is one of my favorite CDs of all time. All of the songs are incredible...particularly what must be everyone's favorite, "Africa." Salif is King! A be se ka donke kosebe (he can really sing)! Really the best of any world music/African music I have heard! Order it!
