Biography

At the beginning of their career, Level 42 was a jazz-funk fusion band, following in the footsteps of such pioneers as Stanley Clarke. By the end of the '80s, they were a pop-R&B band with a number of hit singles to their credit. Featuring Mark King (bass, vocals), Phil Gould (drums), Boon Gould (guitar), and Mike Lindup (keyboards), the band formed in 1980. Before they released their first… Read more in Amazon's Level 42 Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Level 42, July 31, 1999
By A Customer
The most overlooked album from the most overlooked band. Will never get the respect they deserve (at least in the States) but true fans know that they are great live, and this album proves it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Great, September 30, 2006
This review is from: Live at Wembley (Audio CD)
This particular live album was not authorized by Level 42. Polydor, their old record company owned the rights and released this even after Level 42 had left them for RCA.

The production quality on this album is terrible. It sounds almost like a bootleg, although it was probably recorded from the mixing board. There is no nuance of sound, every insturment bleeds over every other. You cannot hear the backing vocals.

One saving grace of this recording is the wonderful rendition of "Lessons In Love".

For a much better example of Level 42's live performance, I suggest "A Physical Presence" or the "Live at Wembley" DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars energy, December 25, 1999
I really enjoyed this album. Level 42 is one of the best live bands ever. A shame they split up. 'Live at Wembley' has a concert-energy hard to find these days. A great album !

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collector's album
This album is a must for any Level 42 fan. Although it is a compilation of some of their biggest hits, the album has a whole new level of energy because it is LIVE. Read more
