5.0 out of 5 stars Rudy Weidoeft - "Kreisler of the Saxophone", April 8, 2003
By Robert J. Silvia (Lander, Wyoming United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
He's not your typical jazz saxophonist. His playing is amazing. He had fantastic tounging techniques. I have never heard anything like this before. His ability to jump from the high octave to the very low octave and back again, in fast tounging grace note passages is equally amazing.

On this CD you can hear him play both the alto and the now obsolete C-Melody sax, which was a very popular sax to play in his day.

I would recommend any saxophonist have a listen to this. A word of caution is in order though: These cuts were taken from old 78 rpm records. They do not have the high quality you would expect in a modern CD recording. That stated, Rudy should still be listened to today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kreisler OF the Saxophone, to be correct, April 3, 2007
By Eric Stott (Albany, NY USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For some reason the title of this collection is constantly gotten wrong online. If you want a sizable collection of Wiedoeft's recordings, or want to hear some fine sax playing, buy this- it's easily found from many retailers online. Don't expect modern sound quality- these are all 20's or older and the age shows. BTW- as an added curiosity Wiedoeft's accompanist on some of these sides is Oscar Levant!

4.0 out of 5 stars Four Star Review, September 7, 2009
I actually wish to rate the writer one of the reviews. I was so confused to see Ludwig van Beethoven as the "composer." Probably somewhere in this wonderful mess is a song that incorporates one of Ludwig's songs and the fact that his last name starts with a "B" (early in the alphabet) makes it come out that way. Or just Rudy's legacy. I understand Rudy was a great pitch man, so to speak, for his sound. Thank you also Amazon for a credit card that gives me free access to this treasure. Who needs "scorecard" when you have Amazon reward certificates? I can't wait to get the product to try to put my own spin on one of the Rudy tunes with my Conn Cel-mel that I am starting to work with again. Life is great! rob
