5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best album of the year, November 21, 1998
By A Customer
This album is a must buy for those who love death metal music. The music is intense and depressing. MLC is the best metal band on the music scene in a long time. And I also suggest buying their first album, self-titled Misery Loves Co.

4.0 out of 5 stars A More Organic Direction, November 24, 2006
By avgvstvs "xeno6696" (Omaha NE) - See all my reviews

This album is reminiscent of Katatonia's later work. It's a very slow album, with lyrics that are well-written. This album is much more atmospheric than its predecessor--not like black metal, there's actually much less keyboard on this cd than the original, just that the way the guitars and everything work together creates an atmosphere that sounds alot like it's cover looks--a guy standing out in the rain with his head down. Sampled drums from the first cd were completely replaced with a live drummer. This album isn't emo foolery either, it's metal, with close to death metal vocals, but all tastefully done--no cookie monster. If you like godflesh, this album reminds me alot of "Songs of Love and Hate," "A Million Lies" sounds alot like Godflesh. They also have an acoustic track that uses a similar progression and identical rhythm to "Help me I am in Hell" from NIN's Broken. Don't judge by that though, the lyrical content is one step above on all the songs. The slight lack of originality is probably the only reason I give it a 4, though these cd's helped me keep my head on through some tough times because of lyrical quality--Patrick knows depression.

My favorite track... without a doubt, the track "infected."

All their cd's are good at creating an atmosphere. They're also so cheap on amazon, you have NOTHING to lose.
