Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The more you think about it, the more the name Mount Pilot makes perfect sense for this Chicago quartet. Mount Pilot, you see, is the "big city" up the road from Mayberry--big, of course, being a relative term. What these boys do is bring an urbane approach to down-home musical styles--"urban country" if you will--juggling swing, bluegrass, trad country, and Gram rock. The blend of styles seems natural and unforced, more a function of their diverse tastes rather than a plotted path. Quick picker Jon Williams grabs your attention immediately with his fluent licks, but closer listens also reveal a steady but subtle rhythm section--Christopher Grady on bass and Kevin O'Donnell on drums--that effectively creates room for him. This 1998 debut offers an engaging sampling of their many moods, only occasionally straying off course with a mundane lyric here or a pointless bridge there. --Marc Greilsamer

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just another Americana Rock band, April 3, 1999
By A Customer
Mount Pilot's debut album is very promising. This new band out of Chicago effectively blends the musical talents of the band members in a manner that makes for an interesting sound and an interesting album. Matt Weber's vocals cull together the band's strong musical and lyrical efforts. Jon Williams throws down some strong riffs as well as some precision finger picking work. Christopher Grady's solid bass work provides platform and, as in live performances, the energy behind the band. "Been Forgotten" and "3 Years in October" are bona fide hits and should be getting more radio air time thant they are getting. In short, Mount Pilot has a great sound and let's hope their new album will be available soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent country-rock, June 18, 2001
By Richard Smith (baltimore, md USA) - See all my reviews
For those that like the Jayhawks and Uncle Tupelo, Mount Pilot will be a nice addition to your collection. Good songs played very well by a tight bacnd and excellent guitar player.
