5.0 out of 5 stars The quintessential Andre sound. Highly recommended., October 2, 2001
By A Customer
This is vintage Maurice Andre, recorded when his piccolo
trumpet playing was at its peak.

The final track, Martini's "Elevazione", displays much of
what is wonderful about Andre's lyrical playing: Unstrained,
full-bodied sound in the upper register; impeccable phrasing;
good intonation; a pleasing vibrato. When I think of what
the piccolo trumpet should sound like, this is it. Stunning!

For the trumpeter, this is a lesson in baroque performance
with organ. For those less concerned with the technicalities
of trumpet playing, sit back and enjoy the work of one who is
arguably the finest piccolo trumpet soloist of the twentieth
century.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very upset, September 12, 2002
If you listen to the CD reasonably closely,you can hear Maurice being picked up not only by his mic, but by one of the mics for the pipes. This only occurs when Maurice is playing loudly, but the effect is a slight out of tune delay; almost the sound when two trumpets play in unison and almost in tune. For me, it ruined the cd because if you can't hear Maurices natural sound, whats the use?
