Biography

Manchester became the center of the mid-90s Britpop movement thanks to the incredible success of Oasis. Their first two albums, Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, were multi-million sellers that made the swaggering Gallagher brothers the biggest rock stars in the land.

Formed by brothers Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher, they built a formidable live reputation locally after… Read more in Amazon's Oasis Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have For Fans, January 17, 2006
By J. Merritt (Washington-Baltimore Corridor) - See all my reviews
It's a cryin' shame that this is in the "Shame It's Out-of-Print" File, because this is one of the very best maxi-singles from a band that has put out a lot of 'em. In addition to the single itself, there are three non-album tracks, two of them must-have's for fans:

"The Fame," with Noel on vocals, is among the group's very best songs, with the signature rollicking, fuzzing guitars and a sing-a-long, wall-of-sound chorus. I can't believe this track was left off "Be Here Now," but then I'm also not sure what song I'd cut to make room for it. And as much as I love the Rolling Stones, the cover of "Street Fighting Man" may well be better than the original. It is, at the very least, a fantastic, rip-roaring modernization of a classic.

If you're a fan of the Gallaghers & Co. and you don't have this, track it down somewhere. It's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good masterpiece by Oasis, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
I bought this single and I was very anxious to have it. Now that I do have it, I am very pleased with it. It's the best single I have ever heard! The Fame, Street Fighting Man, Flashbax and of course All Around the World are really good tunes, of the kind that you'll find yourself whistling them at every moment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and insiring, September 21, 2000
By Graham Johnson (Chicagoland, USA) - See all my reviews
The most ludicrously overproduced single of the 90s is also one of the best. In the hands of anyone but the brothers Gallagher it would have been turned to treacly schlock, but All Around the World is triumphant, glorious, and powerful. The B-sides - none of which appear on The Masterplan - are also excellent, especially the soaring The Fame. The cover of Street Fighting Man is also a highlight.
