lo mejor de la mejor de italia, July 14, 1999
By A Customer
I first heard of Laura Pausini when I went to Monterrey, Mexico, in 1996. Though I didn't understand as much Spanish back then as I do now, I was affected by the emotion in her voice.I recently bought this CD that I hadn't heard in so long, and I rarely go anywhere without it. Every song on this disc is strong. The first one, Gente, has a line that I find very poignant- "No somos angeles, no nos caimos de cielo, la gente que busca el amor verdadero". The next song, "El No Esta Por Ti", is so bittersweet, you feel the longing and anxiety in the couple she sings about. "Amores Extranos" is equally as affecting. "Las Chicas" perhaps foreshadows the direction she went on in "Mi Respuesta", her latest album, though I think "Las Chicas" is far better. "La Soledad" is another heart-wrenching song, with her voice ranging from a longing whisper to a the full capacity of her singing voice. You really feel that songs like this ring true. Of course, her first hit, "Se Fue", is here, with a very poetic refrain (se fue, se fue el perfume de sus cabellos, se fue, se fue, el murmullo de sus silencios). With this song and others on this disc, she endeared herself to Mexico. I would recommend this album even to those whom don't really understand Spanish. Albums like this one are few and far between.
