Biography

98° are an American boy band formed by Jeff Timmons in LA in 1997. The group are Timmons, Nick and Drew Lachey and Justin Jeffre.

They released their debut album in 1997, but hit the heights with their follow-up, 98° and Rising. It went multi-platinum, helped by a collaboration with Stevie Wonder on the single "True to Your Heart" and an 'appearance' in the Disney animated film Mulan. Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

They may look like just another boy group, but Ohio's 98 Degrees more likely found their role models in smooth crooners Boyz II Men than in New Kids on the Block. It was backstage at a Boyz II Men concert, in fact, that they met their manager and scored a deal, going on to platinum sales in Asia (à la 'N Sync in Germany) before having a hit on home soil. That song, "Invisible Man," is just one of many supersweet slow jams on their debut that give it that slightly more credible R&B edge (others worth checking out include "Was It Something I Didn't Say?" and "Heaven's Missing an Angel"). Uptempo tracks like "Come and Get It" and "Dreaming," however, show that they still know how to pop. --Rebecca Wallwork

4.0 out of 5 stars a must buy for r&b listeners, June 12, 2000
By A Customer
to be honest, I bought this album just for the song "invisible man". as that song came to an end, I was going to turn off my cd player and let it be. but then, part of me was like, 'give these guys a chance'

I'm glad I did. as the songs played, I listened. the lyrics were rang true, the music beautiful. 98 degrees does not need to be compared to BSB and Nsync. they have more of an r&b flavor to their music.

favorites of mine include the mentioned "invisible man", "was it something I didn't say", "take my breath away", and "heaven's missing an angel". these songs remind me of something that boyz to men could have done. it comes as no surprise then that they are both on the same label, motown.

anyone looking for a very listenable r&b album will be very happy with this purchase. the songs will find a place in your heart. I know they did in mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Smooth R&B, May 11, 2000
By Liz (Maine) - See all my reviews
I have been hooked on the music of the four talented guys of 98 Degrees since this CD came out a few years ago. They are set a breed apart from the "boy bands" and I think this is obvious after listening to this album. On their debut CD they use their amazing vocals to showcase their talent in both the areas of R&B and pop. On tracks such as "Was it Something I Didn't Say," "I Wasn't Over You," and "Invisible Man" their true R&B flavor comes through sounding very similar to BoyzIIMen. On more upbeat tracks like "Come and Get It" and "Dreaming" they show definite pop promise. Overall, this album is a beautiful blend of the two genres of music and I would reccomend it to anybody looking for a good album to relax to. It definitely gives them credibility and will surprise all of the "boy band" haters.

I dislike it when others vote them down and classify them as a boyband. They're much better than that and they do not have mediorce voices. Get your ears cleaned. Read more
