5.0 out of 5 stars Unholy Raw Black Metal with a touch of melody, April 24, 2000
By Hater of the Human Race (Under a Serpent Sun in Cincinnati, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This cd, in my opinion, is one of the better black metal albums out there. This is very fast paced black metal that fans of Gorgoroth, Emperor, Ulver, or Satyricon would definitely love. But they have quite a bit of variation in their tracks. The title track has some haunting female vocals. "Lamia", which is one of my personal favorites is very beautiful and melodic compared to the other tracks. The thing that sets this band apart from other bands is the the female flute player that adds variety to the music. The production is raw but not so raw that it sounds like it was recorded on a tape player or something. I would defintely recommend this superb cd to any fan of Black Metal as I think Lord Belial's epic style can appeal to many different people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant ,in true Lord Belial style!, June 30, 1998
By Johan Nel ( pak04602@pixie.co.za) (Bloemfontein ,South Africa) - See all my reviews
On of the best Black Metal titles to ever be releaded.More pro- and aggresive than the KISS THE GOAT,this is really a true masterpiece,Right from the pits of hell.Fast and melodic, slow and beautiful and then the best of all, extremely fast and devastatingly brutal. My favourite cd in my collection! If you don't have, this buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless Tortured Album, January 17, 2005
When I first picked this CD up in 99 I didn't know what to expect but 6 years later I am still damn glad that I did. "Enter the Moonlight Gate" is definitly one of the most underated black metal albums of all time. From start to finish this album tears its way through each song. The guitars aren't nearly as complicated as its melodic death counterparts, but the band just uses them to build upon with their use of the flute and chello. Now I know what newcomers are thinking. . . flute and chello don't sound too black metal. But Lord Belial uses them in a way that makes them absolutely hauntinginly atmospheric like in "Lamia". For fans of more blistering black metal, Belial switches gears for songs like "Black Winter Bloodbath" with pulse pounding double bass rhythms that tear your ears apart with every beat. But the real crowning achievement here is the last track, the 13 minute long "Realm of a Thousand Burning Souls Pt 1". This is an epic black metal triumph. Definitly the closing of the album is the most tortured part where a female vox over a deepening riff let you know what Dark wanted to convey. . . the fact that someone wakes up and realizes that for eternity they will be burning. . . and you hear that so clearly when Dark shrieks over the end "Oh my God!!! Noooo!!!" It still gives me chills six years later. From start to finish this is one classic album for metal, not just black metal, but due to whatever reason it never made its mark. Buy it, you will not be dissapointed!
