Biography

The ranks of jazzy drum'n'bass swelled to a maneagable degree with the debut of Mocean Worker, the recording alias of jazz producer Adam Dorn. Dorn's father Joel was one of the stalwart producers at Atlantic Records during the 1960s and '70s, helming sessions by Coltrane and Mingus as well as pop records like Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly, " Bette Midler's debut album and the Allman Brothers'… Read more in Amazon's Mocean Worker Store

5.0 out of 5 stars This is fresh and beautiful!, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
Adam Dorn's electrobeaty lullibies lull me into wondrous states that I haven't visited in a long time, and I listen to LOTS of electronic music. A MUST HAVE. My friends (the ones who don't listen to much electronic/avant garde music) LOVE this. The fact that this CD is so diverse is a testament to his originality.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent!, June 2, 1999
Check this guy out if you're a fan of progressive drum and bass at all or just like good music. He takes the best elements of the Good Looking crew's style synth-washed ambience and combines it with the hard beats and analog sounds of a squarepusher or a mu-ziq. I read about him in a videogame magazine of all places. One of the most overlooked jungle pioneers out there, and certainly America's best drum and bass artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars GETTING A WORK ETHIC, OR, LOOK BUSY, ADAM'S IN THE HOUSE, September 10, 1998
By A Customer
That's it. Adam Dorn has finally brought his years of experience and experimentation in the music business to bear on a single project. Warmly devised, Home Movies works in a very personal way, an almost avuncular way, which very few purely electronic albums can. This is an album that transcends sub-sub-sub genres, and so there is little point in categorizing, aside from the obvious perspective of market positioning. Never one for marketing anything, I just dig it because it works. The perfect definition of an accomplished work of art in any discipline or style: it works. And that's it.
