Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Poison was the ultimate party band of the '80s; they seized on the trappings of pop metal, and played them to the hilt. While their music was never exactly original, it was fun, and it still is. Look What the Cat Dragged In is arguably their most entertaining album, because it was recorded before they tried to infuse their music with "serious" themes that ultimately dragged down their later recordings. The best songs on this album are the unabashed party anthems, including "I Want Action" and "Talk Dirty to Me". "Let Me Go to the Show" is pure tongue-in-cheek, its adolescent viewpoint and fervor showing just how well Poison knew their target audience. A guilty pleasure if ever there was one. --Genevieve Williams

4.0 out of 5 stars Oh, give me some mascara, April 23, 2006
Upon listening to this debut album by Poison, I was beginning to think the only things in life that really mattered were girls, sexily puffed up hair, screeching, sometimes spacy guitars, and the right shade of eyeshadow, all backed up by a never-ending summer.

Listening to this created in me mental vignettes of long-haired people at a beach, playing volleyball, while the barbeque sits on the tailgate of their truck in the parking lot, being watched over by more long-haired people, and all the women are, of course, in bikinis. Some are haughty to coincide with their leanness while others are crying tough due to some breakup. Who says it's not okay to be a 38-year old still feeling the thunder when Betty just won't say 'yes' (and when she does, it's time to brag).

Visual mental results aside, this music is dated in such an enjoyable way as it makes me wish I wasn't 8 years old when it came out; I listen to this and can't stop wishing the modern age was a little more fun. Even though this music, with all its campiness and station wagon charm, isn't a royal form of rock, it is so much more lively and funny and emotional (in such an 11th grade way) than the prone-to-spirit-less stuff the music managers and producers allow to be realeased today.

When Poison sings about how much they like it when girls talk dirty to them, there's something of the intrigue of the romance novel, and combine that with this lightened form of heavy metal and all the hair, and you've got yourself a memory of a different time that seems more intersting than the one we're in now.

1.0 out of 5 stars GIVE ME A BREAK!!!, July 10, 1999
Ok, so it was popular in the '80's, but let's get real, there is ZERO musical quality. These guys were aimed towards the teenage girls and wimpy guys. If you're into that kind of stuff, then get it. But forget about hearing any interesting music.

5.0 out of 5 stars does not sound or say remastered, December 28, 2005
I have always been a Poison fan, so i was looking forward to getting a remastered vers of LWTCDI.....Nowhere does it say remastered nor does it sound remastered. The album itself is still great, if you don't have if, def buy it at this low price....either Amazon sent me the old copy or total misrepresented this cd "reissue" as remastered....heads up people!
