Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The British blues movement actually began in the late 1950s, but it was a few years later that it began to boom, thanks to the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, and John Mayall. The godfather of it all, however, was Alexis Korner. He was there at the start, a mentor, adviser, and performer all through the heyday. The Brit blues boom gave us some remarkable performers, including the greatest of all British blues guitarists, Peter Green. It would all become blues-rock, thanks in large part to bands like Free and Led Zeppelin, and then the rock that would fill stadiums and sell gazillions of records. But even when boom turned to bust, the blues never died. The bands that were around then are, by and large, still around. The players are doing it more for love than money. British blues continue to come up with some excellent talent, as this collection shows very well. It may have retreated more into the underground, but in Britain, as in America, it'll never die completely. --Chris Nickson

2.0 out of 5 stars Some Great Blues From GB...Unfortunately Not HEre!, February 27, 2002
There is no doubt that Great Britian has produced some outstanding blues performers over the years from Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, early Stones, Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Gary Moore, Dick Heckstall-Smith and the list goes on. Unfornunetly, however, none of those greats are included on this disc. Rather, the disc itself contains some lesser known performers such as Alan Price, Stan Webb and Brian Knight. Those included that are perhaps better known include the Goundhogs, Paul Lamb, the Blues Band and Nine Below Zero. One listen to this CD and you will soon know why these individuals and their bands have not been elevated to stardom. Simply put, the performances included on this CD are extremely dismal. Don't get me wrong, guys like Paul Lamb and his KingSnakes, the Groundhogs and Nine Below Zero have all put out some great music over the years. However, you will not find any of those songs included here and the CD serves as a poor introduction to these individuals that might otherwise deserve a listen. Pass!
