Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Eddie Murphy stars in the remake of this classic flick, but his presence is curiously absent on this soundtrack comp (not even a sound bite from the funnyman). Instead Dr. Dolittle is a solid collection of R&B and hip-hop heavyweights, including Ray J., Montell Jordan, Aaliyah, and All Saints. While there's nothing too groundbreaking here, the album does have its strong points. As the disc progresses, the ballads are left behind and the songs shift into high gear. Timbaland's up-tempo "Da Funk" and Eddie Kane & DeVille's "Push 'Em Up" are party-ready, and Dawn Robinson does a funky rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Rocksteady." But by the time the Sugarhill Gang codas with "Ain't Nothin' but a Party," you realize the bash is just warming up. --Jason Verlinde

Vibe
Dr. Dolittle's line-up--ranging from sweet, mid-tempo R&B to bouncin' southern bass--has little to do with the film's story line, but it sure can make you dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music you won't expected to hear off a kid's movie. Rich R&B, October 13, 2001
Even if you think Dr. Dolittle is the worst movie ever you still needed to pick up this album! Of course Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" is the thunder in this CD but it has great songs from Ray J. and Timbaland. Like said in past review Aaliyah was the ONLY and emphasis on ONLY r&b song to hit #1 on TRL which is a shame because I would like to see more songs like this at #1 but rewarding to know Aaliyah showed the Pop and Rock world who's boss. Buy the CD, you'll like it.

Love you Aaliyah! You will always be remembered! This song was the 1st song I ever liked. This CD was my first CD ever. Rest in Peace and Glory! God Bless!

5.0 out of 5 stars A party just waiting to happen, June 5, 2001
By "maeve_kelsey" (California) - See all my reviews
There are so many awesome hip-hop and R&B songs on here. Timbaland had a huge part in producing, writing and remixing on this album (He even has his own song on here) giving this album a whole Timbaland flavor. The obvious highlight here is Aaliyah's Are You That Somebody? which is probably the only R&B song to ever hit #1 on TRL. It is really catchy and has a great bass. Another highlight is All Saint's version of Lady Marmalade, remixed by Timbaland. While they don't really capture the flair of the original song, their voices sound very smooth and stylish, bringing a whole new personality to it. 69 Boyz's stadium smash Woof Woof is also included. Former En Vogue member Dawn Robinson does an interesting cover of Aretha Franklin's Rocksteady. Already big namers like Montell Jordan and Ginuwine also provide some quality tracks. If you like R&B and are a fan of Timbaland's music, or music that sounds like his style, then pick this up for sure. It's a great collection of some killer songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta have it....
Timbaland had a big hand in this album. Very tight production, good artists, good music. If you like R&B with the new 'Timbaland feel', buy it.
