4.0 out of 5 stars "The" Old School, January 5, 2000

A well recorded rarity. A collector's item at the time of its original release on vinyl. If you like Dave Cousin's voice up front on the Strawbs recordings you will love this simple acoustic recording of some of the band's most memorable titles.

5.0 out of 5 stars aged well, September 25, 2002
By booboo bear (Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada) - See all my reviews
When I 1st saw this album in 1980 it was the album cover that got my attention. That has changed and I prefer the original one. In Canada the cover was a sunny yellow with a pencil sketch of a young guy in a jean jacket with an acoustic guitar. It looked a lot like what I remembered of school. The acoustics and vocals were pretty much as expected except perhaps for the almost medieval edge. Always did enjoy lyrics that do more than rhyme.

This album has a tendency to grow on the listener. A number of my friends have added this one to their collection after asking on more than one occasion what they were listening to. It could be Mr. Cousins passionate vocals or Mr. Willoughby's fine and clean guitar stylings...

There is an underlying sadness about this album that seems to have something to do with aging. It could be the way the passions are kept in check by the acoustic format but whatever the reason this album has aged very very well.

If you live anywhere other than London you should buy this CD. Dave and Brian still perform, for fun and beer money I suspect, but not often outside London. Read more
