5.0 out of 5 stars Top EP from a Great Band, November 9, 2006
By shadowking (north bondi, nsw Australia) - See all my reviews
Everyone who knows me knows that I consider Paradise Lost to be THE goth rockmetal band. They are also renowned for putting out great EP's and B-sides and this one is no exception. It is one of their more unique works as they are at the crossroads between their signature guitar driven sound and the more electronic goth influence that would come about on the 'One Second' album. The EP starts with the classic PL track 'Forever Failure' off their Draconian Times album. The track shows their more progressive and atmospheric side - something I always wished they would explore more off. There is also an instrumental version of this track which works very well even without the vocals and really makes you appreciate the compostional skills of the band. 'Fear' is again, something different: a fast guitar driven track with furious vocals - almost punk like and is a real treat. Then there is the atmospheric 'Another Desire' a laid back track - almost semi-acoustic & Perhaps the first attempt to move away from metal altogether with Nick Holmes singing clean all the way through for the very first time. Some electronic effects are also starting to make their presence in this track, although they are pretty sparse.

This EP is very much required for any PL fan and a good treat after the masterpiece Draconian Times album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest metal band!, June 1, 1999
By A Customer
I'm a Paradise Lost fan, so you might not believe me when I say that you should buy this CD-single. "Fear" is a fast song, but it's very different from the usual PL`s fast songs, it sounds pretty unique, in the other hand, the song "Another Desire" it's the most commercial song they did so far, I didn't say that it's a bad song, actually it's pretty cool, This song reminds me Metallica's "Until it Sleeps", you will also find A new version to "Forever Failure" with some keyboards included. What else can I say? Buy it, or Die!

The Forever Failure-single, including the titletrack, is a real good emotional-rocking thing! The other tracks is: Another Desire , a slow one, but a good one! Read more
