5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut with extras., August 29, 2002
This CD deserves 5 stars on it's own merits even without the extra tracks. You've heard all the songs by now. Sex Type Thing. Plush. Wicked Garden. Maybe even Crackerman if you live someplace that has good radio stations. Those have become modern classics, no doubt. Yeah, this CD is a little old, but the tunes will go head-to-head with just about anything out there today.

In all likelyhood, you've heard just about all of the songs on this CD at one time or another. Maybe you're wondering if shelling out a the extra dough for 2 songs will be worth it. Let me break it down. The acoustic version of "plush" is very good. It's not like the other acoustic versions that I've heard, this sounds like they cut it in a studio. As such, it feels a bit cleaner than say, had it been recorded live. The other extra song is a lounge-ish version of "Sex Type Thing". This is a way different sound for STP. It's almost a preview of the second CD, "Purple". Is it good? Depends on your taste, I happen to like it.

If you like the original "Core", and you already own it, you may want to try to get the songs elsewhere. Yes they're both good, but for the price? I don't know.

In my case, I bought the CD way back in '93, and it has been used and sometimes abused ever since. My motivation for buying this was to replace my original copy, so the addition of these extra tracks really sealed the deal. For me it was worth spending more for the 2 songs.

I'm biased, I'm a huge STP fan, and I had some motivation to buy the CD again. If you don't own it already, buy this version, you'll be pleased. If you have it without the two songs, but it's an old copy, buy it, you'll know where the extra money went.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Original Musically-Orgasmic 90's Masterpeice, March 18, 1999
By A Customer
With confirmation of the return of their incredible front man Scott Weiland, and more music being written for the group, the Stone Temple Pilots are sure to continue their tradition of selling out venues and releasing outstanding albums. Weiland's talent is in the same range as Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell or U2's Bono, with a creativity and a feirce on-stage spirit all his own. The rest of the underestimated, but magnificent, band backs up Scott's personality and bravado -the same as the Doors did for Jim Morrison

This album is better than the domestic version, because it includes a soulfull and almost bluesish version of the best song on the CD, Plush.

STP began in San Diego where the group was first Mighty Joe Young, & released its first album Core in 1992 selling 3 million albums. Their second album, Purple started at #1 when it was released. The backlash that ensued, (because the band's sound so closely resembled the style coming out of Seattle at the time) was unwarranted because the Stone Temple Pilots are more concerned with tight song structure, and overall quality of the track, rather than only rage and a lot of shouting. STP's sound is a more crafted style of songwriting with creative melodies, irresistable guitar riffs, and great production quality.
