Editorial Reviews

People

The remarkable thing about this retrospective is that, while it celebrates television, the snippets of audio are potently evocative, from the sonorous voice of Walter Cronkite to the unmistakable theme music for such shows as Mission: Impossible, The Jackie Gleason Show, The Twilight Zone, and Gunsmoke.

1.0 out of 5 stars A re-hash, October 14, 1998
By A Customer
If you are a fan of TV theme songs, then you probably already have the "TV Tunes" series, so forget this one. Not only is it a re-hash of tracks from their other cd's, they STILL include (and here's what makes my blood boil) their own crummy remakes of certain theme songs, such as "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and "WKRP in Cincinatti" and "Gilligan's Island". Avoid this. Make your own by taping the songs off the TV and it would be far, far better.

5.0 out of 5 stars TV FANS DREAM!, October 17, 1999
By A Customer
Any fan of tv needs this cd. I saw a previous listener lambasted this cd, what he/she said was untrue. While some of the songs may have been redone (VERY few), they are either to a) make them longer, or b) bring the sounds up to par with the others. Some of the original recordings would just not have held up. This cd even includes a rare rendition of the infamous All In The Family theme sung by Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton with additional lyrics. The only notable songs left out from the CBS collection are Newhart (82-90) and Maude. The Golden Palace would have also been nice, but it is still a wonderful cd.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Rehash of Lousy Copies, February 4, 2002
By Amazon.com Customer "premature" (Huntsville, Alabama United States) - See all my reviews
I agree with the music fan from Dearborn, Mi. It is a re-hash of a lot of crummy remakes and poorly recorded originals. I recorded Rawhide and Gilligan's Island off my TV set with better sound, as well as the original and superior versions of the Twilight Zone and Wild Wild West (with a cool guitar riff, not this Mantovani styled remake). If you really don't care about these type of things, then this is the disc for you. Avoid this if you are a true television theme aficionado.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT, AND I WOULD LIKE THERE TO BE A SEQUAL

3.0 out of 5 stars What! No Magnum P.I.?
If I'm not mistaken, Magnum P.I. aired on CBS in the 1980s - yet, it isn't on this CD. Thank goodness they managed to remember Dukes of Hazzard - too bad they left off the... Read more
