A classic from CHER, August 23, 1999
Before "Believe," before "If I Could Turn Back Time," before many of her current fans were even born, Cher recorded a timeless album that remains the foundation of her career. This album contains Cher's most famous song, the title track "Gypsys, Tramps, and Thieves," as well as the huge hit "The Way of Love." Beyond that the highlights include James Taylor's "Fire and Rain," which is my favorite cut on the album, as well as "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" previously recorded by...well, everybody. This is an emotion packed album delivered with gusto. Two more amazing songs are "I Hate To Sleep Alone," and "One Honest Man." Now if you're looking for the disco-queen, she's not here. However, if you're looking for some of Cher's most amazing vocal performances...you'll find them on this album.

70s Gold, May 18, 2000
Another great showcase for Cher's voice. This time in a pop formula that is not too hard but certainly not too soft. The title track, as you might know, is a brilliant story fictional song with Cher accounting her. "I was born on the wagon of a traveling show Mother used to dance for the money they would through...." It is a campy little classic. The story (like her two other seventies numbers 1s "Half Breed" and "Dark Lady") are fables that have a great beat and are shinning examples of her voice. Most of the album shows Cher spinning her magical vocals around great desire full love songs like "I Hate To Sleep Alone" and "He'll Never Know", plus her powerful ballad "The Way Of Love". "The Way Of Love" was actually a cover such as her steamy "Fire And Rain" and I believe "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". Cher sings excellently here and the music. I also should mention one of my favorites "Touch and Go", which was a smoky night club feel and little bit of girl group edge. Every song is special, but not and some of her best vocals are captured here. The songs on the albums kind of remind of the songs she used to sing on "The Cher Show", so if you like that, check out this album.

Before the incarnations....., December 1, 2002
70's pop classic. Before she went Disco, 80's rock and 90's dance she recorded classic pop. "He'll Never Know" is a power ballad with a story, i always liked this one. "I HATE To SlEEP Alone" is pop, a fun little song reminiscent of Sonny and Cher. You got the Billboard hits..."Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" and "The Way Of Love". Also some of the best rock covers. "He Ain't Heavy...." has been covered by everyone from Al Green to Donny Hathaway but Cher puts her own spin to it with her specific low range. "Fire and Rain" is also nice. As a fan of pop spanning from 70's to the 90's, it's refreshing to have a cd that is enduring and sounds great in any decade. Not all Cher albums can be bestowed with that comment, but this does. Cop' it.
