Biography

Alternative rockers A mix punk attitude, spacey Moog synth, and Britpop-influenced guitar rock with bratty, juvenile humor. The group debuted in 1997 with How Ace Are Buildings but achieved their first widespread release in the U.S. with 2000's A vs. Monkey Kong. Although they toured behind it, they didn't make too big of a splash and decided to re-enter the studio soon after promoting the… Read more in Amazon's A Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Get on the Bandwagon Now, January 9, 2003
By drew m (maryland United States) - See all my reviews
A are still so obscure in the US that How Ace are Buildings isn't even sold here regularly. You have to get it as an import, and that folks, is just another example of why mainstream music is so lousy these days. Here's a a band that is begging, and I mean begging, to rule the world and producing some of the best rock music in ages (and I mean ages) in order to do it, and it's all gone criminally ignored.

What makes A the best band working right now? Maybe it's because they pay so much attention to songcraft (even if their immaturity would have you think otherwise). A make sure to pack every song with hooks and melodies for every second the CD plays. There's no dead space. None. Bridges have spectacular melodies of their own ("No. 1"). There are no pointless guitar solos. Songs aren't padded for length. Lyrics are written with all the care of a Letterman monologue ("KKK? Bad Idea!"). This is band that loves what they do, and you can hear it everywhere on this record, not to mention on A's two other masterpieces, Monkey Kong and Hi Fi Serious. Pure rock energy explodes out from every corner of your stereo. God forbid someone playing music these days actually enjoy it. Listen to "Five in the Morning" and your perceptions of what popular music could and should be will change. A are here to rock. Get on board.

5.0 out of 5 stars what's wrong with US?, January 26, 2004
By A Customer
This is one of THE best bands i have ever heard! I really don't understand what is wrong with America. A deserves way more attention than they recieve. With the way OUR music's heading, who knows what crap we'll come up with later on! I just hope that A and bands like them will help bring our music status back up. We could use the lift! : P

P.S. This is a rockin album and i suggest that whoever hasn't heard these guys, to make sure you get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars How ace is this, March 12, 2001
By Ben (Cheshire, England) - See all my reviews
A are a little known pop-punk band from down south, and as useual with british pop-punk bands (Silver Sun) they're big in Japan, and with good reason. There music is good natured and so so infectious, with songs like Foghorn, Number one and sing a long leading the way. Even the most aredent rocker will like this, its sugary yeah but not too sweet, perfect for those warm summer days. There follow up Monkey Kong is not a patch on this. Take the risk and buy this, I did and now i've got a big stupid smile on my face
