5.0 out of 5 stars Someone Had To Have Goofed On The Price, August 4, 2007
I got my copy some time ago for $5.49 - for 20 of Dinah Shore's finest performances from 1940 to 1946, complete with a nice, concise review of those years by David Shrimpton in the liner notes!

Dinah, who was born on March 1, 1917 in Winchester, Tennessee, first came to national prominence with Xavier Cugat & His Waldorf Astoria Orchestra, and was the vocalist on his 1940/41 hits The Breeze And I and Quierme Mucho (Yours). In 1940 she began her solo career and, backed by the orchestra of Paul Wetstein (later Paul Weston and the husband of another legend, Jo Stafford), had her first hit with Maybe on the Bluebird label, taking it to # 17.

You get that on this wonderful CD, along with mega hits like You'd be So Nice To Come Home To which, b/w Manhatten Serenade, went to # 4 Pop and # 10 R&B in May 1943, and I'll Walk Alone which hit # 1 Pop and # 10 R&B late in 1944.

Digitally remastered, all 20 songs (half of which were Top 40) are delivered by that unmistakably silky voice that would go on to entertain us through one generation after another, right on into the Rocking Fifties.

When cancer claimed Dinah on February 24, 1994 it took away one of the finest entertainers ever to grace the record, movie, and television fields. But she lives on in magnificent CDs like this. $5.49?? Somebody goofed indeed. You have to hope it's re-stocked at some point, although I doubt you'll see that original price re-applied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dinah, February 16, 2001

I bought this cd cause it had "Shoo fly Pie" (the Lexus commercial) on it. This has to be one of the biggest bargains ever available. All tunes are done with Dinah's typical great style. For "old fogies" it's a must have.
