Unreleased tracks from Pearl Jam ("Hard to Imagine"), Supergrass ("Don't Be Cruel"), and Fu Manchu ("Swami's Last Command"), among others, highlight this unusual soundtrack for an independent film about a day in the life of a Chicago cabdriver. Apparently, it's a muted, sordid affair, since none of the tunes featured here approach anything near anthemic heights. Instead these are sonic-
noir songs that shift quietly like sand as weight is applied. The unreleased Pearl Jam tune (a studio fave from the
Vs. sessions) is Eddie Vedder whispering and getting philosophical. Sparklehorse ("Hammering the Cramps") is outright eerie. Helmet's Page Hamilton offers up only a minute of pure sound. Brad, the Grifters, and Hovercraft (featuring Mrs. Eddie Vedder) round out the package with intriguing--if slight--contributions.
