4.0 out of 5 stars A very good album, July 17, 2000
By A Customer
Released in 1980, it was their second studio album as a duo and their first since 1973 not produced by George Martin. They go back to a simpler production of their early days. The songs are more straightforward folk pop/rock. Best songs are I Do Believe In You, Valentine, Catch That Train, and Coastline.

5.0 out of 5 stars An all time favourite !!!, April 29, 2002
By Goanna (Australia) - See all my reviews
This album represents some of the best tracks, I feel, the guys have produced. Riding on the back of a successful closing 70's and a new 80's decade. This album has a slight hardcore feel about it. A brilliant sound from one of the greatest rock groups today.... 30 years on and still going strong!!!
One of my all time favourite albums from Gerry & Dewey.

If you don't buy it, then your missing out on a great album...

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is My Absolute Favorite America Album, February 27, 2002
By V. Alannah Davis-O'Dell (Kenosha, WI United States) - See all my reviews
I've been a fan of America for nearly 30 years (and never mind how that dates me). Their music got me through some tough times in high school in the 70's. "Alibi", released in 1980, is my favorite of any album they've ever released...and believe me, it's tough to top their "Homecoming" album. As long as I live, I will never, ever understand why "Alibi" wasn't a huge hit. There are at least 5 potential hit singles on it. "Coastline" is a showcase for Gerry Beckley's ethereal voice. "Survival" pairs meaningful lyrics with a bouncy melody. "Right Back To Me," "You Could've Been The One," and "Might Be Your Love" are just plain enjoyable. I think this is one of America's bouncier, more peppy albums. There's little here that's as deep or nebulous as, say, the song "Sergeant Darkness" (my all-time favorite America song) from the "Harbor" album. But "Alibi" sure is a whole lot of fun.

1.0 out of 5 stars great album, poor remastering
this is a great album but the remastering was unusually loud & harsh. i prefer the excellent 2006 BGO remaster that also includes "Silent Letter".

5.0 out of 5 stars another great America effort
I think this album has some great songs. Valentine is a great rocker song and while it is not a usual America melodic tune, it is still a great song. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars gerry great, dewey less so
This album is pretty unmemorable. Gerry is excellent as always with the fairly well known and melodic 'survival'. He handles 'don't believe in miracles' nicely. Read more
