Great music, BUT, February 4, 2002
The music contained in this CD attempts to present different aspects of Sudanese Music. The musicians do a great job and the singer has a nice, mellow voice. But, if you want true Sudanese pop you should try Abdel Gadir Salim, Abdel Aziz El Mubarak... Or if you want something more traditional check out Muhammed El Amin. Rasha's delivery lacks the drive and ability that the above singers posess. Unless you are a collector of Sudanese music, I recommend getting the other CD's before this one.Nevertheless, Some of the songs do sound great and show the potential of this young singer has yet to be reached.

a beautiful musical journey, January 5, 2003

...which definitely deserves more than 3 stars. Usually, I don't write reviews but this time, I felt that three stars and a half for this album was really too low compared with its quality.
I'm used to listening world music as I've got cds from many different regions of the world including countries like Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba, Senegal, Mali, Egypt etc.
I understand that purists of sudanese music may prefer a singer like Abdel Gadir Salim to Rasha. However, if you're an amateur of great world music as I am, more specifically, if you're sensitive to Oriental and African music, you can't go wrong with this album. I'm not an expert of Sudanese music so that I can't make safe comparisons with other Sudanese singers. But, who really cares about how representative of Sudanese music Rasha is? Not only does Sudaniyat bewitch its listeners thanks to Rasha's great voice but it also enables you to become more familiar with Sudan's diverse musical traditions. This is quality world music. So, just give it a try.

A Daughter of Mother Africa, October 16, 2000
This song grabbed me as if the spirit of Jimi Hendrix was there. Meaning: the words of this particular piece put me in a frame of mind that was clearly the mother of "Axis Bold as Love" a Jimi Hendrix album, who's words(on that particular song) have discriptions of life, people, and situations gathered in the midst of an hipnotic flow of music. AND WHEN LISTENING TO "RASHA" IF PART OF YOUR BODY IS NOT MOVING.......CALL THE PERAMEDICS!!!! Songs 3,8 & 10 are most enlightening. The cover of Jimi's "AXIS BOLD AS LOVE" album, reflects an "East Indian" influence. So has the artist from Sudan and her cd "Sudaniyat". If you have the time, sit and listen to this music and let yourself be taken by it's wonderful aroma and influence to the mind.
