I've had this disk for about two months now and I've probably listened to it once a day on average. Sometimes two or three times a day. It is just a great listen from beginning to end that never seems to get old and seems to get better with each listening.

Nagelfar are a german black metal band - all the lyrics are in german. Everything you could want in a diverse black metal album are here: a mix of clean vocals, typical screeching black metal vocals, and downright sorrowful/tormented cries of anguish that only the most sufferable SOB could unleash (and the best part is it's in german so if you don't understand german like I do, it's even more outlandish sounding), swedish style melodic guitar riffs, melodic keyboard passages that are just legendary as f*ck, good drumming, occasional mellow passages. It's all in there.

It's the diversity from track to track that really makes this album one of my favorite black metal releases hands down! I just can't describe how much I love this CD.

It's hard to draw comparisons from other bands. One section of the song Schwanengesang (Swansong), the guitar riff in particular, sounds like Kampfar. Other stuff sometimes sounds like Abigor ("Opus IV" era - which is another brilliant CD while I'm at it). Other than that these guys really just do their own thing.

If you're any kind of black metal fan pick this one up. you won't be disappointed. The sound quality isn't the best, but it's better than the average black metal album and it's clear enough to hear everything.

you think you like black metal? this is fine work with merely mediocre production quality. as an audiophile, the quality was something i noticed _after_ the music, and that does not happen very often. the songs on this album contain a very sad undertone with a cry for battle at the same time, releasing emotion in blasting kick & darkened keys. old school style with wonderful vox.
