Biography

Perfecting their power pop rock since the mid-'90s, New Jersey's Saves the Day call it like it is. They refrain from characteristic pogo-pouncing anthems for their own quirky post-punk and energetic live shows, influencing a new school of emo/punk bands along the way. The first incarnation of Saves the Day happened when singer/songwriter Chris Conley was only 13, and the band was first called… Read more in Amazon's Saves the Day Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Young punks that know what good music sounds like., May 12, 2000
By "howitzer" (Vancouver, WA United States) - See all my reviews
Isn't it great when a young, rookie band comes along that not only makes incredibly catchy music, but knows their instruments really well too. That is exactly what Saves The Day is. They make an incredibly satisfying combo with their Pop-Punk, with an Emo twist music style. The guitar playing and drumming is very memorable, and Chris sings with an extra accented punk voice that really leads the band. You should definately buy this if you like A New Found Glory, Slick Shoes, The Get Up Kids, MxPx, or Craig's Brother.

5.0 out of 5 stars changed my life!, December 5, 1999
By A Customer
i bought this cd about 6 months ago after i heard it in a friends car and its remains to this day the most incredible cd i own. singer chris conleys lyrics are honest and expressive and his voice his soulful with that extra punk rock flare that could easily be compared to lifetime. but saves the day is in a class by themselves, not at all a carbon copy of anyone. blindfolded and 3 miles down reduce me to tears every time i listen to them...and they rock in concert, i've seen em twice at st. andrews in college park, md. buy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Saves the Day release. Period, June 6, 2002
By Chris Wren "Chris Wren" (Chicago, Illinois) - See all my reviews
No other way to put it, really. This is what the band encapsulated. While they are growing up and experimenting with more melodic tendencies, the band gained it's rabid cult following through an aggressive yet emotional brand of typical punk rock. While Through Being Cool had a modest hit with "Shoulder to the Wheel" and was immensely popular, Can't Slow Down is a perfect and overwhelming example of everything that the band initially stood for.

Combining Chris' most powerful lyrics to date and the most aggressive and powerful songwriting of any of their releases, Can't Slow Down is a staple of the emo-punk trend that has been sweeping across the country. Chris' normally viceral and corporeal lyrics are at his teenage best, combining his heartbreak with his idealistic dreams, his impassioned callings and disappointed stories to create a perfect picture of his life at the time. Ted and David's guitar riffing take the typical modern-punk level and are integral to the emotional ferocity of the CD, and the early stages of the Eben and Bryan rhythm section are in solid roots. Technique and musically, this might be their most complete album, even if it is their most juvenile.

As Saves the Day expands their fanbase across the country, this CD will always be a hallmark of their sound and, in my opinion, their strongest and most powerful release ever. Songs like "Jodie," "The Choke," and "Sometimes, New Jersey" are proof of that, staples of their live set and just increadible songs for such a young band.

In short, if you're just getting into Saves the Day, I would recommend this CD over the newer ones in an instant. It's essential for even the casual fan.
