Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Near-clinical detail are the watchwords on Enter the Dru, R&B quartet Dru Hill's follow-up to their double-platinum debut album. "Is it gonna be on the floor or by the sofa ... by the TV?" If you've kept up with the exploits of pseudo-rude '90s acts on the order of Jodeci and Silk, you know the, er, drill: promises of how the singers are ready to "freak" their ladies vying with whiny ballads, all attempting to demonstrate just how enlightened and sensitive these heroes are. The formula is broken here mainly by an appearance by Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man on "This Is What We Do." Which, in a Wu-mad world, hardly counts as a formula breaker at all. --Rickey Wright

Vibe

They can sing, but their vocals are not well served by the material.... [Y]ou're left wanting more substance and without a clear sense of who Dru Hill are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forgot how great this album is!!, October 25, 2006
By T. Allen (Toronto, ON) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
These guys definitely had talent back in the day. its so sad to see these groups that have so much talent fall apart. This album does not give you the option to skip any tunes cause every song on here is on point. Definitely a feel good album, worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars the B-more (my hometown) boys prove themselves, June 7, 2000
By "luvchld2" (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
Im going to go as far as to say that this is one of the best R&B albums of the decade. These guys are on pace to pass Boyz II Men as group of the decade if they keep work like this comin. These hometown heroes put all other groups to shame. They are destined for greatness their next album is this good. These are my picks as the best:

You Are Everything One of the best song on the cd. Often overdone by the remix but still a good song

The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind) Excellent remake. Very few times where remake is better than original.

Beauty one of the greatest love songs of all time (no doubt) one of those never-get-old types

A+ cd. if there were more stars then this cd would get them. You know this is a good group when more than one memeber can go on to be a a very successful solo artist. Sisqo is already one of the best performers out today. Jazz has the potential to be very good (pending on the production of his cd) Nokio is already a good producer in his own right. These boys have a bright future. Sleeper pick: Holding You emotional song with a very real meaning to it.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3'5 - Enter The Dru, January 28, 2008
After a successful Dru Hill in 1996 including the hits "Tell Me", "In My Bed" and "Never Make A Promise" Dru Hill shortly became one of the most popular R&B groups on the planet. Sisqo, Jazz, Woody and Nokio (all natives from Baltimore) released this, 2 years later and it became their biggest selling album and eventually went platinum. Their style is much simular to Jodeci mixing both tender slow jamz and explicit sex anthems. Singer Sisqo even sound alot like Cedric "KCI" Hailey, and was initially critizied for ripping off his style. But Dru Hill had little competitions when they started out cause Jodeci were no longer around and few other groups were as straight forwards as them. This album feature their biggest hit, the #3 ranked "How Deep Is Your Love", their classic mega hit that represent R&B better then anything else in the late 90's. It was the soundtrack to Rush Hour and works excellent now aswell. Other then that we can say that their sophmore effort is very much polished by stellar producers like Babyface on the sweet ballad "These Are The Times" Diane Warren on "What Do I Do with the Love" not surprisingly another ballad. Slicker R&B with "This is What We Do" with Method Man and "You Are Everything" later remixed for a video release with Ja Rule. With 17 songs you got the best of both worlds, but plenty of filler aswell. I would actually say that their debut album is slightly better even if this one sold better. However, "Enter the Dru" made them interational stars and later launched Sisqo's solo career that included his 5x Platinum debut album Unleash the Dragon. There's not been much going on around anyone of them lately, but Sisqo will be relesing a new album this year. As for "Enter The Dru" it's a decent purchase that brings you back to the 90's.
