My 3-year-old has been begging for a "real" tea set for Christmas, and since she has a major Madeline fixation this is the one I picked up. It's a completely adorable doll-sized set of china cups and saucers, teapot, creamer, and itty-bitty forks, knives, and spoons...plus tablecloth and (I think) napkins...all with little Madeline drawings on the sides. For the price I think it's a good deal, especially given the packaging. The best part is that the whole set comes in a sturdy little picnic basket, with little elastic bands to hold each piece in its own special place. Of course if you get a small kid a china tea set something's bound to break eventually, but I figure the basket packaging minimizes the chance and maximizes the play since not only is there a safe place to keep it, but it's fun to pack it up and take it on a pretend picnic! It IS china, and it's a tea set (not an encyclopedia), so I scored it lower on educational value and durability. But you want one anyway, don't you....hmmm...maybe for youself?
