4.0 out of 5 stars Best Theme melody ever -- good score., October 3, 1999
By A Customer
John Barry has a talent rare to the world of the cinema. He creates great melodies. On top of that, he creates (or used to, when he was still willing to do so) great arrangements and orchestrations.

You Only Live Twice is, in my opinion, the very best theme song ever written for a film. It's hauntingly beautiful, creative, and captures the mood of the film's Japanese location. Even Nancy Sinatra is at her very best singing it.

The music includes the great "Capsule In Space" theme (also known as "Space March"), and the rest of the album is also good, but not as great as those two pieces.

Again, the major problem with this release is the great music that isn't in it...When will they ever learn? Hey - United Artists/MGM/whomever...wake up!! Time to release ALL of the complete Barry Bond scores (you can keep the rest).

5.0 out of 5 stars You Only Live Twice...and Twice is the only way to live!, November 14, 2002
By Devin Zydel (New York) - See all my reviews
The 5th James Bond movie and one of the most memorable and soothing title songs ever! John Barry does magnificent work. Nancy Sinatra performs with undeniable charm and sensational class! Mountains and Sunsets is a loving piece as Countdown for Blofeld is intense and exciting. Capsule in Space is a haunting melody that really gets the attention of the viewer and Bond averts WWIII is another great tune. If one can complain about this great soundtrack, it would be that Little Nellie Attack was sadly not included. You Only Live Twice. A truly inspirational song for a inspirational soundtrack!

4.0 out of 5 stars John Barry Does It Again..., April 21, 2002
By Stuart Humpert (Napa, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
John Barry pulls off another good James Bond soundtrack yet again. This soundtrack is good, and John Barry does a great job with the space capsule music. They are very exciting and riveting. Listen to the track 2 clip to sample the space music.

Some highlights are:
"Capsule In Space" which is an exciting and tense track, the tensions building and building until the end of the track.
"The Death Of Aki" which is a good track that displays the love and sadness in the relationship between Bond and Aki. Halfway through, the music becomes tense as the assassin tries to kill James Bond, and then ends with sadness as Aki is killed instead.
"Mountains And Sunsets" is definitely the number one song on the soundtrack. It is a beautiful instrumental version of the You Only Live Twice title song, and is played primarily by violins and harps. And finally the exciting "Bond Averts World War Three". It is exciting and tense as Bond fights Blofeld's henchman Hans, and then turns into sheer suspense as a faster version of Barry's "Capsule In Space" is played for the scene wheere Bond struggles to stop Blofeld's spaceship from destroying the American spaceship.

Tracks 3 and 5 are exciting tracks, and tracks 9 and 10 are tense and exciting as Bond infiltrates Blofeld's volcano base and Blofeld prepares to launch his spaceship.

Overall this soundtrack is good, despite the missing tracks which is a pattern among most of the James Bond movie soundtracks. If you are a James Bond music fan then you should definitely buy it, but if you are not you should listen to the clips first before buying it.
