Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The best part of the video game Tekken has always been an animated prelude that sets the stage before you start drop-kicking your opponent's head. So it seemed natural to extend it into a movie, brought to life with artful anime illustration and an alt-rock soundtrack. All of your favorite Tekken characters are here as they battle their way through each other to win the Iron Fist tournament, where fighters of unequaled strength from around the world gather to test their strength in the gladitorial arena. Of course, intrigue and danger abound, with professional assassins, champions of justice, and those whose prowess earns them fear and respect facing off. Also, many opponents have deadly hidden agendas. Watching this film is perhaps not as visceral as actually executing a flying face-smash on your own, but an anime thrill nonetheless. --Tod Nelson

4.0 out of 5 stars awesome movie, January 14, 2001
By Nghi (Dallas,TX) - See all my reviews
I had just read reviews for this video a few days ago, and I couldn't believe the bad rep. it was getting. I've seen this movie and it had good animation, music, and a kickass storyline. I'm not saying it is the best movie in the world but it deserves more credit than people give it and I think the bad reviews that people placed online are kidish because they all say this;"The movie was bad because it didn't show all the characters":()OH BOO HOO(),WELL for one thing the story was based on a main character and not 17PEOPLE!because if it had 17people, than the movie won't have a main character and the storyline will be jacked up and won't make any sense at all. The plot in tekken was better than i thought it would be. Also it was creative and thoughtful unlike most animes. Plus the dialogue and effects were perfect for the movie. So people should think more now on about how good the movie was instead of how dumber they will make the movie by writting their reviews that insult it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Run, don't walk, away from this film!, October 17, 2000
This review is from: Tekken (DVD)
Over the 6-7 years I have been an anime fan, I have seen the cream of the crop, and the cream of the crap. And out of all the piles of dung that I have seen, this ranks as the king(which is truly an acomplishent seeing as how I have watched the entire thing of Tank Police series and Dragon Ball Z). Watch for 5 minutes you'll feel dizzy. Ten? Mild headache. Twenty? Spliting headache. Thirty! The walls in your home begin to melt. And if you can watch the whole thing thru? Your head and home both are inveloped into a world of nothingness(I think its the same empty void were trashed pop stars go too)!

This movie is so bad it hurts to think about, so I am having a hard time finding a place begin a rant.

The animation is very unbalanced; cel drawn its passible. But once you see the Computer animated seqences, you'll either laugh till it hurts or you'll be drivin to a sickness until you can't get up after you smack your head when you fall to the ground.

The music is a tastless mix of songs that either suck, don't fit the scene, or combination of both. The background music isn't good nor memorable.

The character development is either non-exsistent or uniteresting. And the plot is well, lets just say its about deep as a staturday morning cartoon.

So in this mix, is there anyting redeming about this terrible video? Yes, there is! IT'LL GIVE YOU FEET SO FASTER THAN YOU THOUGHT IMAGINABLE! There is a reason for the title people. Abide by it. You will be a very happy customer. And I gotta stop talkting about before my head explodes!

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away!, July 12, 2000
By J. Dawson (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tekken (DVD)
Whoa! I was truely expecting more from this, seeing as how it evolved from one of the greatest fighting series in the world. After I saw this and Toshinden, I made sure I rented the anime before I bought it. Lets see...bad points: Poor art...lousy animation...character development too fast...rushed into an hour...bad action sequences...Good Points: The credits at the end. People who call this "good high quality animation," should be beaten violently, along with the makers of this film. I have seen some bad anime in my life(Aika, Battle Arena Toshinden), and this ranks on up there in the junk heap. Hey, it even smells like garbage! This anime is best used as a gag gift. Don't buy it unless you are a hardcore Tekken fan, and don't care about how pathetic it is. I recommend Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, or Street Fighter The Movie. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
