5.0 out of 5 stars Think Pink Think Zoot, June 28, 2006
By Brian Keogh (Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
They are all here the A sides plus the best of the B sides. The early think pink think zoot songs like Monty & Me, About Time & the boppy Little Rolland Lost are memories of a struggling Adelaide, South Australian group. Then along came Rick Springfield & BANG: Eleanor Rigby, The Freak, Strange Things & a classic B side Evil Child which is a real rocker. The standout track is Hey Pinky which was written by Springfield when they shed their pink suits & bubblegum image to turn into one of Australia's solid rock bands. This is a great blend of soft pop & raw rock at its best from the 60s & early 70s.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good for its time...and even for now, June 23, 2006
If you're a nostalgic frame of mind for 60s-70s era progressive rock, but want something slightly different than what is constantly played on the 20 record loop on any corporate owned radio station playlist...then why not try Zoot? You will be pleasantly suprised by this old, yet new sound...

I enjoyed listening to this particular recording. I've been a fan of Rick Springfield since the early 1970s, so for me it was a real treat to get to see some of the foundations of his musical career. The guitar playing was very good...and I enjoyed the lyrics to the songs. It was interesting seeing the tranformation from that "think pink" bubblegum image they were saddled with to much more of a "heavy, loud" band (with a touch of the psychodelic to it) In my opinion, Zoot was just as good a band as the Who or any of the other groups of that era...and proved that rock and roll wasn't just strictly British...or American!

The metal rendition of the ballad "Eleanor Rigby" was somewhat daring for its time, but it definitely put a different spin on that song. I also recommend "Hey Pinky" for the lyrics and Rick Springfield's guitar solo. He's always had superior guitarcraft and this song proves it.
