The listing and customer review for this recording creates nothing but confusion and misunderstanding. First of all, the recording IS Donizetti's Requiem for Bellini, it has the correct listing but incorrect track listings. The track listings are for the VERDI Requiem, not the DONIZETTI Requiem. That is one error. The second confusing error is made by the poor reviewer who does not know the Verdi or Donizetti Requiems well enough to know the difference between them. All this does is add to the confusion. No, Ingemisco is not sung by a woman, it is not Ingemisco at all!

This is a superb recording and a representative work by Leyla Gencer, showing her more understated, less vehement side. Some people are unaware that she was a consummate Mozart and concert singer and was able to control her incredibly exciting and sometimes unpredictable voice to bring the subtle nuances required in works of Mozart and works like this requiem. There is no one like her today and the world of opera is poorer for it.

The tenor solo, Ingemisco, is sung by a woman!
