Wishing Chair opened with the title cut from their new CD, Undisputed Country, a ballady "fight song" about longing to live in a gentler world. The first strains of the theme from Miriam's accordion bewitched the audience...And so it went throughout the set, each tune permeating and captivating. Their straightforward lyrics contain accessible images, with an underlying consciousness of the forces and beauty of nature and her creatures.
The energy is initially generated by the powerfully talented Kiya, who commands the stage with her soft-spoken, subtle humor, and then lets loose with strong, pure, earthy vocals and infectious musicianship...But it was the combination of Kiya and Miriam together that made me say to myself, "yeah, that's it..."... to create a sound with great listening appeal-joyous and uplifting. I realized that Wishing Chair was an apt name for this duo that had me riveted to my chair, wishing that they would keep on playing.
