Review by Glenn Watson ODES OF ECSTASY

Product Description
Odes Of Ecstasy have set forth from the always original Greek metal scene to join that generation of bands who take on a more eclectic musical approach. Their debut "Embossed Dream In Four Acts" is crafted around IV dreamy acts with the listener first being greeted by a Prologos and parted ways with an Epilogos. Offering a graceful harmony of classical with select genres of metal you will be caressed from dramatic piano interludes to thrash overtones; come across somber melodies; confront a contrasting sensation as lush soprano accompany brutal male vocals; and be inspired by bittersweet atmospheres while ethereal chants embrace acoustic guitars... Succumb into their ecstatic cosmos and ode by ode unveil their dark symphonic splendor... ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: Odes Of Ecstasy formed in November of 1993, by Dimitris Bikos (guitars/vocals) and Joseph Nikou (bass). A year later Dimitris Panayiotidis (guitars) joined the band and in December of 1995 they released their first promo tape featuring one song called "Theogony" which is no longer available. In the summer of 1996, they recorded their first official demo named "Atheistic Emotions," with the addition of Christina Maniati (female vocals). The demo includes three songs of Atmospheric Symphonic Death Metal, a cover of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and an Ambient tune featuring only female vocals, keyboards and electric guitars. "Atheistic Emotions" received great responses and Odes Of Ecstasy were reckoned as one the most promising young bands to emerge from Greece. Soon after, Dimitris Panayiotidis leaves the band, to fulfill his military obligations and was replaced by Nikos Baltas. In May of 1997, the band recorded one new song called "Words of Insanity" which was released as promo '97. The recordings took place at Praxis studio, Greece's most prestigious studio. The song shows the band incorporating elements from classical music and further expanding it's already grandiose sound. It received rave reviews, as Odes Of Ecstasy got compared with bands like to Septic Flesh, Therion and Theatre Of Tragedy, and was featured as demo of the month in the Greek Metal Hammer. This promo also helped the band sign a deal with The End Records. The debut album is entitled, "Embossed Dream In Four Acts" and features six tunes that set forth paths of classical and symphonic death metal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Underground Opera-Gothic from Greece, September 17, 2000
By Thijs van der Haar (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This is the debut album of the Greek combo Odes Of Ecstasy. The band features a female (opera-like) and a male grunter. Synths prevail over the whole CD. It opens with a nice piano intro. The second track is the best track on the album, in which the female vocals are rather weird at first, but certainly not bad. However, the CD in general can't fascinate me to give a real satisfied feeling. Too bad, because the band has good potential, but it still sounds too unprofessional.

4.0 out of 5 stars A top melodic doom/death metal album
In a band photo on the back insert of the CD, one of the band members is wearing an Amorphis T-shirt, which predicts the esthetic of this album. Read more
