With a lovely tenor that might remind you of Michael Ball without the angst, cabaret veteran Lee Lessack fills his second solo album with romantic ballads from contemporary songwriters. "Dreamers" was written by Marvin Hamlisch for the quickly defunct show Jean Seberg, while Frank Wildhorn's "Storybook" is from the slightly more successful Scarlet Pimpernel. Lee Lessack Is one of the finest singers in cabaret today. His CD stays in my player and always will. He combines ability with heart and this is truly an unusual and winning combination!

Lee Lessack is one of the best male cabaret performers, and his new cd will certainly convince you of that. His rich tenor voice is perfectly suited for the selection of songs he has chosen as a follow up to his debut cd. The tribute song to Nancy LaMott ("I'll Imagine You a Song"), by the talented songwriters Carol Hall and Steven Lutvak, is deeply touching. Lee brings a new and refreshing interpretation to "Storybook", one of the most popular choices among cabaret artists today. He works magic with "Endless Night" from The Lion King, wrapping his crystal clear voice around every lyric. Each song showcases Lee's rich, passion-filled voice. "Perfect" by Ann Hampton Calloway is another standout, as well as the title track. The talent of John Boswell, Lee's musical arranger and pianist, is apparent in every selection. You will play this cd over and over and never grow tired of it. If there is only one cd you buy this year, this should be it. And do not pass up the opportunity to see Lee perform in person.

I discovered this CD as I was tracking down covers of John Bucchino's songs. Lee Lessack does a fine job with "It Feels Like Home," which is a gorgeous, soul-stirring work (although I think the best version is by Daisy Prince on "Grateful: The Songs of John Bucchino").

I'm very happy to discover Lee Lessack. This collection offers an interesting assortment-- "I Know You By Heart" (also covered by Eva Cassidy, beautifully); When October Goes (timely!); "Endless Night" (sparse, stirring); "I Can See It" (gorgeous harmonies thanks to Brian Lane Green and John Boswell); Jimmy Webb's "The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress."

Producer and pianist John Boswell deserves much credit for making this CD such a delight. Unlike some reviewers here, I fell the arrangements and accompaniment complement Lessack's voice perfectly. As to his voice: I think it is marvelous-- clear, crisp, powerful, poignant. It is "theatrical" in the most glowing connotations of that word.

If you are a fan of cabaret, great voices, and/or moving music, this CD is for you.
